Asahidake Ropeway / Asahidake Ski Course

Asahidake is Hokkaido's highest peak at 2,291 meters, located in the heart of the Daisetsuzan National Park. The ski area is accessed by a single ropeway that ascends from the Asahidake Onsen hot spring village at 1,100 meters to 1,600 meters, offering 3 marked routes through volcanic terrain. This is primarily a backcountry destination, attracting experienced skiers and snowboarders seeking untracked powder in a wild, natural setting.

The high altitude and inland location produce exceptionally dry, cold powder snow with an average annual snowfall of 12 meters. The season starts early (often late November) and extends well into May, making it one of the longest ski seasons in Japan. The volcanic landscape creates unique terrain features, and on clear days the views are absolutely spectacular. The area has limited facilities compared to commercial resorts, but the Asahidake Onsen village at the base offers several traditional ryokan and hot spring baths.
